Diplomacy and communication in Iran

Susanna Terstal – Dutch ambassador in Teheran

Location: de Eetkamer  (Universiteitsbibliotheek Utrecht, Drift 27)

In her lecture, Susanna Terstal will discuss the current situation in Iran with a focus on diplomacy and communication. After her studies Dutch Law and two MA programmes in the United States (International Relations and Political Science) and her studies in Italian at Utrecht University, she stepped into the diplomatic world. Before she ended up in Teheran, she worked as the “second in command” at the Dutch Representation at the United Nations in Geneva and as the Dutch ambassador in Angola. Since 2015 Susanna Terstal has been the ambassador in Iran and with pleasure she will tell Intercultural Communication alumni more about the relations between Iran and the rest of the world and the communications involved. According to her, these are ‘madly interesting’. She addresses questions like: What is diplomatic communication? How can we bring Dutch points of view in the Iranian context into the open? How does Iran communicate internally and externally and what does this mean for their position on the world stage? And how do we ambassadors bring this into the limelight with Dutch policy makers?

In short, a lecture you do not want to miss and a fine opportunity to talk with other alumni during the drinks afterwards!
